HOWL-O-WEEN

Howl-o-ween is a fun, family friendly, Halloween event that raises money for local charity Mutts and Moggies. It has been running for the past two years and has become an annual event.

The event is a costume contest with 4 categories: • Most Original Costume • Scariest Costume • Funniest Costume • Best Pet/ Owner Combo where both dogs and humans can dress up. There is also a free Halloween themed photo booth with a professional pet photographer from Harry & Sam, face painting for kids and a demonstration from the Gisborne Dog Agility Club.

It’s a great way for owners and dogs alike to get together in a fun, safe environment and help a great charity to continue the good work they do in our community.

" We would like to be able to de sex enough animals so that they are no longer unwanted, pests or just commodities but something precious"

Donna Cullingford

Why Mutts and Moggies?

Mutts & Moggies vision is to decrease the number of unwanted animals in the Gisborne/ East Coast region and improve animal welfare. They provide education on people’s obligations as animal owners and identify areas of the community where animals are most at risk. Their main demographic is low income families and provide the following services: • De-sexing of cats and dogs and occasionally rabbits. • Basic healthcare- worming & flea treatments, vaccinations etc. • Trapping of wild, sick and injured cats. • Humane euthanasia for sick, injured or wild animals. • Emergency surgeries (if funds allow). Last financial year they helped 325 animals in total ( 263 cats and 62 dogs) with the above services. They require around $30,000 in funds per year, with donations being their main source of income. They have the future goal of being able to afford a vet to travel up the coast to de-sex animals.
